2007.12.17

International Commission for the Historical Justice organized the seminars for schoolteachers named “The political intolerance and soviet totalitarianism”. The first part started on 28-30 November, the second on 10-13 December. “I have the best impressions about this seminar. We were delighted not only with the full-scale content but also with the attention we got from the organizers. I feel a strong wish to participate again in the seminars arranged by the International Commission for the Historical Justice”, said the history teacher of Kaunas district Garliavos Jonuciu secondary school.

“That’s fantastic. I thrived on the young a lot. When they came - such smart, such elegant young people, my heart was so pleased, very pleased. I was impressed that in this seminar participated not only the well-known Lithuanian history experts, the professionals, but also the space was given to the young people that are qualified and active”, - the teacher stressed.

Vilnius district Paberzes school teacher Beatrice Nivinskaite was impressed by the way the information was presented. “I enjoyed the topic a lot. It was a lack for a seminar that professionally and from both sides would compare two totalitarian regimes. In my position it is important that those regime would be compared like two evils, just the details are different, that’s all”, she said. The teacher also was impressed by visiting the Museum of Resistance and victims.

Beatrice Nivinskaite couldn’t wait to share her impressions with the colleges and her pupils.“I always talked about that with my pupils and now there are even more arguments because I got more information. In such seminar you feel you are not alone: the public is not a relic, unfashionable and strange item. Conversely, that is usual and necessary object that you could acquire and spread to others by participating in such seminars”, she mentioned.
The main purpose of the seminars organized by the International Commission for the Historical Justice is to reveal the extent and the topic of the crimes made to Lithuanian citizens during the second soviet occupation also to introduce the newest surveys carried out by the International Commission. During the seminar the qualified lectors present the features of the soviet ideology, the forms of the soviet compulsion, the features of the resistance as well as the stages of occupation also help to reveal the conflict between the regime and the individual.

International Commission for the Historical Justice organizes the seminars by implementing the Program on Education about the crimes of the totalitarian regimes, the prevention on crimes for humanity and education on tolerance.
