On October 17, the Kaunas IX Fort Museum hosted a traditional event – the recitation competition “Tylios sienos žodžių paliestos” (Silent Walls Touched by Words).
As every year, a large group of readers participated in the event, together with the teachers who had prepared them. The students had to memorize two works related to the complex and painful experiences of the Soviet occupation, the Nazi occupation, and the Holocaust. The readers were evaluated in two age groups: grades 5–8 and grades 9–12.
The Secretariat of the International Commission is pleased that a large group of representatives from Tolerance Education Centers participates in the event each year, with some becoming winners of the competition. This year, the winners in both age groups include students from the following Tolerance Education Centers, some of whom were also awarded incentive prizes. These are representatives from the following Tolerance Education Centers: Lithuanian University of Health Sciences Gymnasium, Kaunas Kazys Grinius Pro-Gymnasium, Akmenė Gymnasium, Panevėžys Juozas Balčikonis Gymnasium, Plungė Saulė Gymnasium, and Elektrėnai Vocational Training Center.
The traditional reading competition was organized by the Kaunas IX Fort Museum together with the Secretariat of the International Commission, in cooperation with the Kaunas Jewish community.
