On November 13, a remote seminar for teachers was held on “TOLI projects implemented in Lithuania: experiences and dissemination.”
The seminar was intended for teachers who submitted project applications to the TOLI Institute (USA) and received small-budget support for project implementation
The topics of the implemented projects were the history of Lithuanian Jews, the Holocaust, and human rights violations. Twenty-five teachers participated in the seminar, fifteen of whom shared their experiences. They presented ideas for activities that had been carried out, as well as the project’s impact on students and the local community. The project ideas were all related to local Jewish history and included topics such as the Jews of Alytus, Ariogala, Kaunas, Marijampolė, Raseiniai, Šiaulėnai, Šiauliai, Vilnius, and Žagarė; the ghettos that operated during the Nazi occupation; and the stories of Jewish rescuers. Teachers illustrated their presentations with students’ work, photographs, and videos. As teacher Egidijus Živaitis from Jonava mentioned, chairs with symbolic meaning were even created during the project.
The remote seminar was organized by the Secretariat of the International Commission together with the Marijampolė Meilė Lukšienė Education Center.
