‘The Road of Memory 1941–2026’ on 25 August in Šeduva

The 85th anniversary of the Holocaust was observed in Šeduva on 25 August.

The commemorative event began at the ‘Girl’ sculpture in Šeduva, created by Romualdas Kvintas. It then moved to the Holocaust victims’ memorial site in Liaudiškiai Forest, where a massacre took place on 25–26 August 1941, resulting in the deaths of 230 men, 275 women and 159 children at the hands of the Nazis and their Lithuanian collaborators. During the commemoration, the names of all those murdered were read out.

Those in attendance at the ‘Road of Memory 1941–2026’ march and commemorative event included Faina Kukliansky, Chair of the Lithuanian Jewish Community; Rašella Galinienė, Chair of the Šiauliai County Jewish Community; members of the community; Gennady Kofman, Chair of the Panevėžys Jewish Community; staff from the ‘Lost Shtetl’ Museum in Šeduva; the Šeduva town community; and other guests.

The Road of Memory marches – commemorative events in 2026 – have been taking place in Lithuania since July. These symbolic marches honor the peaceful residents, Lithuanian citizens of the Jewish faith, who were murdered 85 years ago.
