International TOLI workshop for European teachers

On 22–26 May, an international seminar for teachers and educators from European countries took place in Dachau, Germany.

Thirty teachers and educators from thirteen European countries attended the seminar. During the intensive programme, they took part in engaging activities, learnt about the history of the former Dachau Nazi concentration camp, visited the museum, and completed various creative tasks using material from the Dachau Museum and other historical sources. The workshop was led by the TOLI Institute’s Education Programme Managers, Oana Nestian-Sandu and Oana Bajka, and the thematic excursions were organised by the Dachau Museum staff and German teacher, Michael Franke. The TOLI Institute’s leadership (Executive Director Deborah Lauter, President Mark Berez, and Board Members Carole Berez and Arthur Berger) were present at all the sessions oš the international seminar.

The workshop introduced new methods of working with sources and provided an opportunity to share experiences and learn about Holocaust education activities in other European countries.

Lithuania was represented at the seminar by teachers from two Tolerance Education Centres: Roma Diktaraitė from Utena Aukštakalnio Progymnasium, Rita Meškienė from Mažeikiai Merkelis Račkauskas Gymnasium and Ingrida Vilkienė from the International Commission Secretariat, who is a partner of the TOLI Institute in Lithuania. The international seminar at the Dachau Museum was organised by the TOLI Institute in cooperation with the Dachau Memorial Museum.
