Like many other countries around the world, Lithuania celebrated International Tolerance Day. This year, 1,319 educational institutions, including schools and preschools, celebrated this day.
The International Commission Secretariat proposed a symbol for the celebration this year: a Street of Tolerance featuring different buildings, people, objects, and signs. A Tolerance Street symbolizes acceptance of others and unity among different nationalities, cultures, religions, and lifestyles. Educational institutions in Lithuania that supported the initiative created a Tolerance Street using various materials and their imagination and creativity.
Since 2003, the Secretariat of the International Commission has initiated the celebration of International Tolerance Day. On November 16, 1995, UNESCO declared November 16 International Tolerance Day.
