On January 28, Vilnius “Lėlės” Theater held a commemoration in observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
In the first part of the event, guests were introduced to the poignant play “The Choice”, based on the novel by Holocaust survivor Edith Eger. Minister of Culture Vaida Aleknavicienė gave a welcoming speech. The second part of the event was a discussion on “The Holocaust in Lithuania: Memory and Responsibility,” moderated by culture historian Dr. Aurimas Švedas, and the discussion was attended by writer Sergėjus Kanovičius, founder of the organization Maceva, which is engaged in the preservation of Jewish cemeteries in Lithuania, historian Dr. Stanislovas Stasiulis, and Ingrida Vilkienė, coordinator of educational programs for the International Commission.
The Israeli Embassy in Vilnius organized the commemoration event in cooperation with the US Embassy in Vilnius, the German Embassy in Vilnius, and the Lithuanian Jewish community.
