The event “Marked by Time…” was held at Kaunas Veršvų Gymnasium to mark the International Holocaust Remembrance Day

On 27 January, the International Holocaust Remembrance Day commemoration event “Marked by Time…” took place at Kaunas Veršvų Gymnasium.

“Young People Talk About the War” was played for the Gymnasium community. It is a unique production based on the memoirs of a Holocaust survivor, Fruma Kučinskienė, and a Jewish resident of Kaunas, Bella Shirin. Four schoolgirls performed the play.

During the event, a former student of the gymnasium, now a first-year student of Journalism studies at Vilnius University, Julija Stankevičiūtė, presented her exhibition of photographs entitled “Traces of the Jewish culture marked by the time.” The project was financially funded by Veršvų Gymnasium, Kaunas Jewish Community, the International Commission, and TOLI Institute (USA).

At the commemoration event, students from grades 5–10 presented an artistic composition based on the book of Holocaust survivors’ memories, “Hands that Carry Life and Bread”.

In commemoration of the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the students of grades 1–2 of the gymnasium, former students, teachers, representatives of the administration, the chairman of Kaunas Jewish community Gercas Žakas, and guests from LHSU Gymnasium joined the civic initiative “We Remember”, initiated by the global Jewish community and observed a minute of silence in honor of the memory of the Holocaust victims.
