The International Commission invites to take part in the civic campaign “The memory is alive because it testifies”

On 13 January 2020, we will commemorate a civil victory over the aggressor, which was won twenty nine years ago. On the morning of January 13th, at 8:00 AM, we invite to light candles of unity, victory and memory in windows for ten minutes all over Lithuania.

Every year, more than 1500 institutions, including schools, governmental agencies, various organizations in Lithuania and abroad, respond to the International Commission’s invitation to participate in the civic campaign for Freedom Defenders Day.

The candles, lit on that day, symbolize the fires of freedom defenders in front of Parliament, the light of the freedom protected and the victory over a brutal force, the memory and concentration in honor of the fatalities and injured.

The organizers invite everyone to join and light the candles together to feel the unity which united Lithuania in 1991.

The International Commission has been organizing the civic initiative “Memory is alive because it testifies” every year since 2008.

If you wish to join the initiative and light up the candles in solidarity, you are welcome to complete the online registration form available on the International Commission website.
