The project ‘The Story of One Photo’ awarded participating students and teachers.

On October 20, the final event of the project “The Story of One Photo” took place in Vilnius at the Martynas Mažvydas National Library.

The project began two years ago at the Simonas Daukantas Gymnasium in Vilnius. The school’s principal, Jolanta Knyvienė, suggested that students find a unique photo in their grandparents’, great-grandparents’, or parents’ albums and learn and describe the story behind it. The project’s first year was very successful. Students found unique photographs with equally unique stories. In 2024, Mindaugas Olbutas, the gymnasium’s history teacher, proposed offering the project to schools in Vilnius. During the 2024–2025 period, 24 schools and more than 60 students participated. At the October 20 event, both students and their teachers were recognized. History teacher Deimantas Karvelis, speaking at the event, emphasized that this project combines two key things: photography and family.

The project “The Story of One Photo” for Vilnius schools was initiated by the Vilnius History Teachers’ Council. The Secretariat of the International Commission, a partner in this project, is delighted that this interesting project, which fosters historical memory, was born at the Simonas Daukantas Gymnasium in Vilnius, which has a Tolerance Education Center.
